Another 3D network to be launched

With 3D being all the rage it seems that programming providers understand that they are not going to sell the public at large on the technology if there isn’t content to watch that uses the 3D technology. Discovery Communications, Sony and IMAX have announced that they will be teaming up to offer a new 24-hour 3D channel in the U.S. later this year.

While the no actual details were released as to when it might actually arrive, conventional wisdom seems to be that it will launch mid-year with DirecTV likely being at the head of the line as one of the first programming providers to carry it.

Beyond confirming that the channel will offer a variety of programming in 3D from all three partners, not many other details were announced at this time. While everything has yet to be confirmed, the companies seem excited about the project and promise that additional details will be announced at a later date.
