PC shipments recover in Q3
Higher volumes than in 2009
According to the latest data from IDC, the PC market seems to be coming out of year long coma and getting back on its feet in style.
Third quarter computer shipments rose 2.3 percent year-on-year following three consecutive quarters of declines. However, it's worth noting the economic crisis started in Q3 2008, so we're still not back to pre-recession levels.
Notebook sales jumped 33.5 percent compared to Q3 2009, but netbook growth is slowing down, mainly due to the introduction of affordable thin and light notebooks. Desktop sales are still falling and this market trend probably won't change soon.
Global PC shipments are forecast to rise 1.3 percent in 2009 and a rather healthy 10.3 percent in 2010. We might not be out of the woods yet, but the worst seems to be behind us.
