Windows 10 users bombarded with surprise Windows 11 popups

Microsoft's hard sell

Microsoft really wants everyone to dump Windows 10 and get Windows 11, but for some Windows 10 users are don't want to do this, so the company is pestering them to upgrade with full-screen, and multi-slide popups.

The long and boring ad for Windows 11 was spotted by Windows Latest after it got the optional January update (in preview) on a Windows 10 machine.

The annoying Windows 11 upgrade promo has too many screens (i.e., more than one): The first tells users that they can get Windows 11 for free and that they can still use their PC while the new OS is installed in the background.

Another popup sees Microsoft pushing the move and saying that users can go back to Windows 10 within the first ten days of upgrading; the last is for those who stick with Windows 10, with a reminder that Windows 11 is still a free upgrade option.

There is another screen that shows some of Windows 11 features, but this only shows up for those who click the 'See what's inside' button.

Some are not moving to Windows 11 because they think it is too buggy, others don't meet the hardware requirements. Windows 11 insists on a TPM 2.0 chip which stops many users from installing it. Even if the PC is a beast, older or missing TPM chips keep them from using Windows 11.

There is a way to dodge TPM and Secure Boot, but that ruins the point of moving to the new operating system and not having the top security features.

You might think that most users would have jumped to Microsoft's newest and best OS offering after seeing the ads, but sadly, that is not true.

StatCounter reports that Windows 10 still has a 66.43 percent market share compared to Windows 11's 27.82 percent market share.
