One of the greatest motherboard brands gone forever

Although we knew it was coming, it seems like the days of abit are over and the owners of the abit brand, USI, has finally given up on abit and has closed the company down for good and are now busy liquidating what is left of the once great motherboard maker.

As someone that has owned a wide range of abit products in the past and at one stage an avid fan of their products, this is indeed a sad moment in the history of motherboard manufacturers that haven't made it. abit had some genuinely innovative products over the years, but alas, some things just don't last.

Hexus has the last words from the ex Marketing Manager, Thore Welling, which sent the following "After 20 years in the market the abit brand now bids farewell, so it's also time for me now to lock the doors of the marketing department. That's it for good now."

The final desperate attempts at making digital photo-frame printers wasn't enough to keep the brand alive, although we weren't amazed as despite it being a clever idea, abit didn't have the clout to push such a product into the right channel.

All we can do now is bid farewell to abit and I'm sure that many of you will miss what was once one of the best motherboard brands out there.
