AMD Ryzen 5 2500U APU Vega enabled APU

Next generation Ryzen APU goes back in time with memory architecture.

We got our hands on the HP Envy x360 notebook featuring the new AMD Ryzen APU with Vega Graphics. It turns out that the GPU uses DDR4 memory for framebuffering. Unfortunately, we will not know much more about the architecture of this processor.

As you can see, the system comes with AMD's Radeon Vega 8 Mobile graphics system with eight logical CPU cores.

We ran the Heaven benchmark at 1024x768 with no Anti-Aliasing as well as Ultra Quality & Extreme Tessellation settings.  It scored a 747 on the benchmark, although the laptop seems to stay fairly cool.

We were quite surprised by the low performance of the APU in a graphics intensive environment. This notebook is barely beating Nvidia's 840m GPU which debuted in early 2014, but again this is an APU not a discrete solution.
