Intel buys Movidius

Chip giant Intel said it will buy Movidius, a company that specialises in VR headets, drones and robots.

Intel said the acquisition was aimed at providing machines with the power of sight.

Movidius offers something called vision processing and the division will become part of Intel’s “Realsense” technology.

The company already works with Google, Lenovo and DJI but CEO of Movdois, Remi El-Ouezzane, said that “when computers can see, they become autonomous” and the future holds the promise of coming developments in artifiical intelligence.

Intel’s aim is to combine the Movidius technology with the cloud through the network.

No financial details of the acquisition were available, but Intel said it would retain the Movidius development team.
