Microsoft starts work on Redstone

Windows 10 service pack, not a rocket

While Windows 10 operating system is still a few months away, it appears that the software giant is already working on and updated version of the operating system code-named "Redstone."

Odd really we used to call these things service packs, but now they have a product name all of their own.

Although the OS is expected to hit the shops in 2016, teams are apparently being assigned to work on it.

While Windows 10 is shaping up to be a huge improvement on Windows 8.1, Redstone is aimed at strengthening the Microsoft Windows ecosystem generally.

Redmond has said that it plans to roll out two major updates for its Windows 10 operating system next year: one in summer and one in fall.

The whole package of 2016 updates to Windows 10 is code-named "Redstone" and is reportedly designed primarily for new hardware and devices that run Windows.

In fact many of the updates will be targeted at the Xbox, Surface Hub, smartphones, HoloLens, Microsoft Band, Office, and other products that rely on the core of Windows.

Cross platform

No one is sure what Microsoft wants to bring to the market with its Windows 10.1 "Redstone" but it is most likely to just improve Windows' cross platform abilities.

The thought is that "Redstone" will be designed primarily for new devices, which will mean that people will have to bump up their PC spec or see a limited amount of changes.
