You have to walk

Boffins working for M2E Power have emerged from their smoke-filled labs, claiming that they have developed a self-charging mobile phone charger.

The gizmo can get enough juice just by having its owner walk a bit.  Well, actually walk a lot.  It takes six hours of cumulative motion and can add 30 to 60 minutes of talk time to a mobile phone, and since many people have enough difficultly walking 30 minutes a day this is unlikely to be much use.

But the cunning plan is to put the charger inside a backpack or purse and then connect it to the phone as an emergency backup.

Of course, you could equally carry a spare battery if it was that important to you.
