Polish LG G3 getting Android 5.0

by on10 November 2014

The rest to follow

LG made quite unusual step by officially announcing that its switch to Android 5.0 on the flagship LG G3 phone is starting this week in Poland. We are not sure how the country got picked, but lucky LG G3 users in Poland should start seeing Android 5.0 powered by Android Runtime (ART) on their phones in the week starting November 10th.

LG has a very bad record with previous Android updates as it would usually takes months if not quarters behind most of the other manufacturers before you would get an update. The announcement also comes as a surprise as LG might be among the first manufactures to announce the Android 5.0 for its devices and that it is happening now. Someone in LG has finally figured out the power of marketing that is wrapped around Android updates.

Motorola’s Moto X is getting Android 5.0 now, second generation Moto G phones should be getting it shortly and Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 should get it in December or January respectively.

“LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is.”

The LG G3 with Android 4.4.2 can be laggy from time to time, courtesy of LG’s own user interface. We tried the same phone with the Google Now launcher or Nova launcher and it runs without any lag and we certainly hope that Android 5.0 with LG’s skin on top of it runs faster than Android 4.4.2 that the company currently offers.

The Poland starts this week and the other countries and territories should follow but LG didn’t had any specific announcement about the Android 5.0 deployment for others than Poland. It used the rather precise "near future".
