Acer’s got a nice Kabini box

AMD’s Kabini/Temash rollout has been painfully slow so far, but it seems that things are finally picking up. Last week we saw the first listings for a Kabini-powered ThinkPad, yesterday we found an HP ultraportable based on Temash listed in Poland and now it’s time for some desktops.

The Acer Aspire XC600 is a SFF machine which has been around for ages, so it is already available in a range of SKUs, powered by a wide variety of Intel chips. Now there’s an AMD version though, and it’s powered by the all new E1-2500 APU. It’s a Kabini dual-core clocked at 1.4GHz and it features Radeon HD 8240 graphics with 128 shaders clocked at up to 400MHz.

The Jaguar powered XC600 also features an optical drive, 500GB of storage and 4GB of RAM, which is not bad for £267.29. Stuff-uk.net says it has 144 units in stock and there’s already a few other listings in the UK, with prices as low as £250. It seems like a pretty nice choice for an office or home PC. The only glaring omission we could come up with is the lack of integrated wifi.

Things are looking up for Kabini, but the rollout is still very slow indeed. Jaguar-based chips officially launched in May and three months on there’s just a handful of products available and ready to ship.
