Ballmer says Microsoft built too many Surface RTs

Better than saying it didn’t sell enough

Delightfully understated Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has admitted what the world+dog knew for a long, long time - Microsoft built way too many Surface RT tablets.

Speaking at a company event last week, Ballmer discussed the $900 million write down for Microsoft’s heap of unsold RT tablets.

“We built a few more devices than we could sell”, he reportedly said, according to Neowin. http://www.neowin.net/news/ballmer-states-that-windows-is-not-selling-well-next-gen-surface-in-testing

This was obviously an understatement, since the Surface RT has proven to be Redmond’s biggest flop since the Zune, but at least it did better than the Kin phone.

Ballmer also said Microsoft is not selling as many Windows devices as it would like, including PCs, phones and tablets.

There’s been much talk of a reshuffle in Microsoft and we reckon Ballmer’s new title should be something like Chief Executive for Stating the Obvious.
