Headed to all of the major platforms

The new Need for Speed title finally has a name. The new game will be Need for Speed: Rivals, and it is in development at Ghost Games in a partnership with Criterion Games. Criterion has become sort of the keeper of the Need for Speed franchise moving forward.

Rivals is coming to the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and the PC. The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC version are on track for a November release, with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version to follow later on. No Wii U version was announced, and this is not really a surprise since the game is powered by the Frostbite 3 engine.

Rivals is a new entry into the Need for Speed franchise, and will offer the freedom to seamlessly go from single player to co-op to multiplayer modes, which provides a new wrinkle from drivers. Rivals is said to feature a new gaming experience, but it will offer many of the advances we have seen in previous Need for Speed titles like Autolog. Ferrari will also return to the Need for Speed franchise as part of the release of Rivals.

Look for EA to fill in some more of the specifics when the show off Rivals at E3.
