Samsung exec confirms smart watch push

Thinks plastic wristwatches are classy

Samsung is working on a new class of smart devices, including a smart wristwatch.

Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, said during an interview that the company has been working on a watch for quite some time, reports Bloomberg.

“We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them,” he said.

Of course, Lee did not offer any details, so it is unclear when the Galaxy watch could hit retail, or at white price point. Apple is reportedly working on a smart watch as well, while Google is also dabbling with wearable smart tech with its Google Glass.

Now all Google, Samsung and Apple need to do is figure out how to convince people that wearing tacky glasses and huge, geeky watches is cool and trendy rather than plain silly.
