Apple App Store encryption glitch kills apps

by on05 July 2012

Killer update

Apple goes to great lengths to make sure that all apps on its App Store are properly vetted and tested before they roll out on the unsuspecting public, so it is hardly surprising that the store and iOS in general have a great reputation for stability and reliability.

Not today however. An encryption glitch managed to seep through the cracks and kill off a number of apps through updates. Some new app downloads were affected as well. Forbes is reporting that the issue was caused by corrupt binaries and it has apparently already been addressed by Apple.

More than 20 iOS and Mac apps were affected, including Angry Birds Space HD, Instapaper, GoodReader, Gaia GPS and many more. Since Apple is already working on a fix, simply avoid updates until the issue is resolved and you should be in the clear.
