Provides corrective angle positions

For decades, hundreds of millions of computer users have subconsciously been aware that improper posture is one of the leading causes of spinal health issues, mild depression and various forms of anxiety, yet very few actually take the time to correct their erroneous sitting habits despite hundreds of medical journals indicating the prevalence of the health issues at hand.

Nevertheless, Philips Electronics has taken advantage of recent improvements in CMOS sensor technology and has developed a new desktop display, dubbed the Philips ErgoSensor display, that keeps an eye on your posture while reminding you to straighten your back, keep your distance from the display, and take breaks from sitting at the computer. Yes, the company's new ErgoSensor monitor is the world's first intelligent display that can actually advise you how to sit in an ergonomically correct position at your computer screen without forming long-term spinal, posture, balance and coordination disorders.

According to the specifications page, the display's CMOS sensor measures inter-pupillary distance (the distance between your two pupils) to determine whether you're sitting at optimal distance from the monitor. Just like the next-generation Xbox Kinect, the sensor will detect if your neck is inclined at a poor ergonomic angle and will give you corrective feedback with the ideal angle position. And just like all of Nintendo's consoles released after 2004, the built-in software will remind you to get up to take a break.

Of course, the sensor is also incredibly eco-conscious and also saves up to 80% energy consumption if user is not present on the seat by powering off the monitor. The total package is manufactured from 65-percent recycled plastics and comes with a 0-watt hard switch that lets you cut power completely off from the monitor for zero power consumption.

The display itself has a 24-inch LED-backlit LCD panel with 1920 x 1080 resolution, 5ms response time, 250 cd/m² brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio (20,000,000:1 SmartContrast) and a Standby Mode power consumption of just 1W (or 0-watts with the Zero Switch enabled).

The 24-inch Philips ErgoSensor LED-backlit LCD monitor (Model No. 241P4LRYEB/00) is now available in the EU for €285 EUR. However, the company has yet to unveil a release date and pricing for the United States and other markets.
