Intel hints at Atoms for Gingerbread 2.3

Software in Q2 2011
Don't write off Intel in the mobile space just yet. The company has big plans and of course they are all wrapped around the Atom architecture.

We know that Intel is still committed to launch its MeeGo 1.2 and rock the mobile world with Nokia, but in all likelihood this will take some time. Before this happens Intel plans to launch an Atom optimised version of Gingerbread. As Gingerbread Android 2.3 is open source, Intel will most likely do a lot of optimisations on its own, but we are sure that someone from Google will offer a helping hand, too.

The release of Atom optimised Android 2.3, aka Gingerbread is scheduled for Q2 2011 but it can slip if Google postpone the release of open source Gingerbread. Intel also plans a Honeycomb version of open source tablet software, again optimised for Atom CPUs. In addition to MeeGo, most tablets based on Atoms should be able to run Android as well. May the better OS win.
