Thin 320GB notebook drive

Western Digital has announced the launch of its largest notebook drive to date, the Scorpio 320GB.

This little 2.5-inch drive spins at 5,400RPM, has 8MB of cache and uses the SATA interface. The average read-search time is 12ms. It is only 9.5mm (0.37inches) tall, so installing it into thin notebooks won't be a problem. The new Scorpio includes Whisperdrive, ShockGuard and IntelliSeek technologies, which should ensure the best possible performance, low noise levels and high reliability.

The highest capacity Scorpio should be available soon at a suggested price of US$199, and it's just a matter of time before we start to see it inside notebooks.
