HP is the winner

PC sales have jumped by 11.7 percent in the second quarter of the year with HP the clear market leader.

According to market research group Gartner sales increased to 61.1 million units with sales by demand for laptops.

Microsoft's new operating system Vista had only a limited impact on the market, Gartner said.

HP remained the top computer seller with 18.2 percent of the market. Its sales rose by 36.6 percent year-on-year.

Nearest rival Dell had just 15 percent of the market and saw its sales fall 5.5 percent.
