Remaining team members to EA L.A. Studio

Our sources have uncovered additional information regarding the Pandemic portion of the layoffs and restructuring by Electronic Arts last week. From what our sources are confirming it would appear that Pandemic, for all intents and purposes, has been dissolved; with about 200 employees getting the axe from that studio alone.

Those team members from Pandemic that remain have been consolidated into the EA Los Angeles studio. All of the Pandemic IP, as well as the franchises and even the Pandemic branding, are likely to continue. Those Pandemic team members that remain and have been moved to the EA Los Angeles studio will be reporting to Sean Decker at the Playa Vista offices.

While Nick Earl as SVP at EA claims that the Pandemic branding and franchises will live on, some are not so sure. This, of course, leads some to believe that while the company might try to reinvent some of the Pandemic IP, it is said that some of the performance of Pandemic-developed titles (since the company was acquired by EA) has just not lived up to expectations; this is said to have contributed to the decision.

Those Pandemic employees that join the EA Los Angeles studio might find it tough sledding there, as well, with that studio also coming under a very intense scrutiny over some of the titles that have not done as well as the parent company might have liked.

Pandemic has been a target of possible closure since the company was acquired by EA as part of the same deal that also saw the company acquire BioWare for a reported $800 million. Josh Resnick, Andrew Goldman and Greg Borrud, who were the founders of Pandemic, are out as part of the move. According to our sources, while the trio is in a bit of shock over recent developments, our sources suspect that the trio are likely to surface in a new independent studio venture in the upcoming months.
