Over 200,000 pre-orders for Homefront

Biggest pre-order numbers in history of THQ
THQ is getting excited about the potential of its upcoming release of Homefront. The new shooter from developer Kaos Studios has been able to generate over 200,000 units in pre-order in the U.S. so far. With 200,000+ units pre-ordered, it is the largest pre-order title in the history of THQ which, of course, leads to their optimism.

Kaos Studios has a lot riding on the success of Homefront. Rumors continue to suggest that if Homefront isn’t very successful or only moderately successful, Kaos Studios will be folded into the new THQ Montreal studio. While THQ head Danny Bilson claims that no decision has yet been made, he has been clear that future of Kaos would be decided based on the sales of Homefront. If the title is successful, then it is possible that New York-based developer would stay open.

Beyond the future of Kaos riding on Homefront, THQ also has a lot invested on the success of the title. THQ is hopeful that they will be able to establish a future for the franchise. THQ has also been pulling out all of the stops with an aggressive media campaign on all fronts to promote the upcoming release of the title. They are really looking hard at establishing additional long term franchises for growth and they have high hopes for Homefront; and with 200,000 preorders alone for the U.S. it does look like the title could be successful.

Homefront is scheduled for release on March 15th on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms. This is the new date after THQ bumped it back from March 8th in a move to make sure that the title had the best chance for success, with really nothing else coming out on that day. The early editorial buzz is strong for this title after a successful beta of the multiplayer part of the title.
