100 million mobile downloads since 2005

It’s easy
to forget the fact that Tetris was once a king of gaming as it's equally easy for younger gamers not to see why. The game’s success, however, seems to not stop just there as EA announced that Tetris has managed to rack up 100 million mobile downloads since 2005.

EA bought mobile rights to the game in 2006 and seems to have done a pretty good job distributing it to almost anyone and everyone. In perhaps a somewhat creepy statement, the CEO of Blue Planet Software, the company in charge of Tetris’ licensing rights, said how Tetris will never go away, and we must admit that if it hasn’t by now, it never will.

On the other hand, if someone does ever manage to match this game in sheer simplicity, addictiveness and excellent boredom-curing capabilities, and all that without the need to have an 80 pound chunk of steel whirring below your desk, they indeed deserve all the accolades they can get. So here’s to another 20-something years with everyone’s favorite “blockbuster”.

More here.
