Fugger’s got it, sort of

Dadi Permutter, Executive VP and General Manager of Intel’s Mobility Group, said yesterday that quad core mobile processors will be available this quarter, but Fugger, the owner of xtremesystems.org, begs to differ - sort of.

He took his laptop and upgraded his processor to a Core 2 Extreme Q9300, a 45nm quad core chip running at 2.66GHz. Apparently, making this work is not such a difficult task, as he replaced his dual core Core 2 Extreme processor with no trouble, all he had to do was to update his BIOS.

Still, the "laptop" in question was a desktop replacement and the PSU brick pulled 225 to 250W, so I’m guessing not many users will be keen on doing this.

You can find a CPU-Z screen shot and more details here
