Overtakes Mac

In a few weeks, Windows 7 use is now at six percent of the entire world market. According to figures from web metrics firm Net Applications, Windows 7’s global usage share broke six percent for the first time over the weekend.

The data is based on visitors to sites monitored by Net Applications so it while it gives an indication of usage it is not an accurate figure for market share. What is interesting is that Windows 7 use seems to increase on Saturday and Sunday which means that most punters are using the OS in the weekends.

This confirms many analysts views that while the OS is popular it is only being used in the home.   Business users are yet to change their operating systems to Windows 7 until at least next year. Still it is good news for Microsoft.

Windows 7 has been doing a lot better than its predecessor, Vista. In a few weeks since its release it has already overtaken the Apple OS, despite all the attention Snow Leopard has received from the US IT press.
