Most popular search term
Microsoft's new search
engine Bing is censoring the word 'sex'. According to some readers you get a
message saying the search sex may return sexually explicit content. To get
results, change your search terms.
In other words there is no button to
press that says you are over the age of six and can handle words like
sex. However this form of censorship of the world's most popular search term
is used only in India. Yep, in the US they are able to search for the term,
but the Indians, have obviously bred enough in the eyes of
Microsoft.
Punters in India could always just change their country preference
from India to the US to get these search results but many will not think of
it. Instead they will go and search in Google which does not have right
wing Christian censorship standards on its site.
Quite what stunt
Microsoft is pulling here is anyone's guess. Some are suggesting that it is
part of an attempt by Redmond to pilot some form of web censorship and see
if anyone complains. Others just think it is a stuff up which will soon be
corrected.
After all Microsoft cannot afford to censor web search and make
its rival look good.
