Zen based Summit Ridge? Probably not
It looks like ECS one of the motherboard partners, plans to show off the B350 Bristol Ridge based motherboard.
CPUs and GPUs are on 14/16 nm
Keith Kressin, a Qualcomm senior vice president, product management, reminded us how the world changed in the last ten years and that the mobile industry leads the transition to smaller manufacturing nodess. With Snapdragon 835 being the first 10nm, the mobile SoC with Qualcomm on helm takes the lead beating CPU and GPU industry to a new manufacturing node.
Coming in 1H 2017
Qualcomm was the first to announce 10nm SoC and claims that it has started shipping to OEMs but it looks like MediaTek won’t be that far behind either.
World’s first 10nm SoC is a big deal
Kaby Lake, the third generation 14nm was launched in 2016 and it looks like Cannon Lake 10nm Intel CPU might only launch in late 2017. But it is fairly certain that the Snapdragon 835 mobile SoC is going to ship in the first half of 2017.
As we said a week ago
Qualcomm just announced that Snapdragon 835, the world’s first 10nm SoC will support Quick Charge 4. The new charging standard promises 20 percent faster charging and that five-minute charge can give you five hours of Smartphone usage. Fudzilla mentioned Quick Charge 4.0 in details a bit more than a week ago.
Full screen that folds?
Samsung has filed a patent for a folding smartphone and there is at least one thing that might get you excited.
World's first 10nm SoC uses Samsung’s fabs
Qualcomm and Samsung have announced that the latest Snapdragon 835 is using Samsung’s 10nm process technology. One thing is clear the 2017 Snapdragon is now officially the Snapdragon 835.
Moving slowly toward the big table
Huawei managed to sell nine million of its P9 flagship phones. Since the company is currently the number three player in the total mobile market, this is not a bad result, but it definitely shows some space for improvement.
Ahead of original plans
The Snapdragon X50 is a chipset that might speed up the introduction of 5G worldwide. The 5G is going to influence us in so many ways that even the head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, has mentioned 5G EU plans and deployment by 2020.
Return of the GPU Jedi
Nvidia, as you have seen, did an amazing job gaining a lot of the GPU high end and mainstream market. Pascal worked out great on the desktop and notebook, but it would be naive to expect that AMD is not going to come back with a vengeance.
