Intel is days away from a EU fine |

Ruling could prove quite costly for Santa Clara
According to The Wall Street Journal, chipmaker Intel will find its
self on the receiving end of a ruling fining it for breaking EU
antitrust laws. The WSJ claims Intel will have to change some of its
rebate policies in Euroland as well, and that the final decision will
be announced Wednesday.
The case stems from 2000, when AMD accused Intel of blocking access to
the market, by offering system integrators rebates to stick with Intel
CPUs over AMD products. The charges were expanded last year, when the
EU alleged Intel paid a major retailer to drop AMD-based products out
of retail.
If WSJ is right about the impending ruling, Intel could be fined with
up to 10 percent of its annual revenue, which was $38 billion last year.
