Nothing really
new till then
Currently Intel
is manufacturing and selling its SSDs at 50nm, but the plan is to
transition to 34nm. This should happen in Q4 2009 and MLC drives will get from
current 160GB all the way to 320GB.
MLC is the
slower of two memories, while SLC drives will get to 320GB in 2010. The X18-M
series of 1.8 inch drives will get to 80GB, 160GB and finally 320GB but we
still don’t know the price for these devices.
The same will
work for 2.5 inch X25-M generation that will get to 320GB with 34nm. Flash memory
is still a bit too expensive but the trend is that the prices are becoming more
reasonable.
