Satire on PC power
requirement absurdity
There are many
power requirements that we take for granted with the PC hardware in use today. For gamers and enthusiasts in particular,
meeting the 36 amp single +12v rail requirement for most modern high-end GPUs most
likely doesn't even cross our minds for those boasting over 600 watts.
In a recent YouTube video, René Grau from CoolerMaster attached a SilentPro
M500 500W power supply unit to a fully working Opel Astra car,
attached by the battery starter.
To our surprise, the PSU not only provides 29 amps of power
sufficient enough to start the vehicle, but it also delivers enough juice for
Rene to honk the horn. With an
energy-efficiency level of over 85 percent and a maximum output capacity of
620W, CoolerMaster has surely highlighted the absurdity of the much higher PC
power requirements found in today's high-end systems.
