Crushes current gen offerings

It doesn't
come as much of a surprise that Sony's PlayStation 2 has received the golden achievement as the most successful of last generation's platforms. Nevertheless, its success continues to live on and even admittedly impresses us with its current adoption numbers.

According to a recent trend index from the Nielsen Media Research group, the PlayStation 2 received 30.2 percent of all console gaming minutes from January to October 2008.  In contrast, Sony's hardware monster PS3 is still falling behind the Xbox 360 in average usage minutes by 1.4 percent and behind the Wii by a staggering 5.8 percent. As predicted, however, it looks as if there may be a long-term effect in place for current generation games, as many long-awaited titles are just starting to take off.

On today's terms, perhaps the success of the PlayStation 2 might even mean that it will have been the most popular gaming platform of the first decade of the century. We will know the answer in due time; however, we would still like to see more console-exclusive content from the three big players before we go back to our typical fps routines on the PC.
