In Q2 2009

Phenom
II X4 925 will launch in February at 2.8GHz, as the fastest AM3, DDR3 enabled CPU. The fastest one, dubbed Phenom II X4 945, will launch at some point in Q2 2009.

The good point of Phenom II X4 925 and 945 is that they will also work in socket AM2+ motherboards but it might be a while until we see any Phenom II faster than 3GHz. We've seen them overclocking to around 4GHz, and there should be enough headroom for even higher speeds, but we reckon that at 3GHz the CPU reaches the magical 125W TDP and this time AMD doesn’t plans to go over that number.

The launch speed of Phenom II X4 940 AM2+ only is also 3GHz and it doesn’t look like we will see any faster ones in the short run. The good point is that Phenom II X4 940 is unlocked and that it overclocks well. We expect the same from the DDR3 enabled AM3 Phenom II X4 945.
