Razer launches Piranha & Lycosa

Names for new headset and keyboard

Our friends at Razer seem to be on quite a roll as of late with product introductions. Razer has launched a new keyboard called “Lycosa” and a new headset called “Piranha” was revealed today.

The Piranha headset is designed for gamers who need a conventional style headset that uses a standard 3.5mm headphone jack rather than the complex cabling solution provided by Razer sibling “Barracuda.” Sporting a frequency response of 18 to 22,000 Hz with a 3-meter cable, the Piranha features in-line controls to adjust both volume and muting at the touch of the lighted controls.

The Lycosa is a new keyboard from Razer that might seem more like a stripped down version of the popular “Tarantula” keyboard that Razer has been selling for some time, but it appears to us to be a bit more than that. The Lycosa is a back-lit keyboard that lights all the keys, unlike the Tarantula, and it provides what seems to be a thinner and more compact form factor as well. The lighting can also be adjusted to light only the WASD keys or the entire keyboard, depending on the function that is necessary at the time.

Like the Tarantula, the Lycosa offers the ‘Hyperesponse’ technology to make sure that every key pressed is recognized by your computer. The Lycosa key tops are rubber coated to prevent finger slippage and in addition, Lycosa offers USB and headphone jacks.

The Piranha is scheduled to ship in October, while those drooling over the Lycosa will have to wait until November to get their hands on one. Both the Piranha and the Lycosa will retail for US$79.99 and will be available from Razer retailers, as well as the Razer on-line store.
