Sharp has sued Samsung Electronics for infringing five of its patents on LCD technologies.
In what observers say could be a 'high stakes' battle Japanese electronics company is seeking unspecified damages, a ban on infringing products and a jury trial.
There are five types of Samsung products involved in the suit, including liquid crystal panels, television sets and mobile phones. Eric Haruki, an analyst of TV technologies at market researcher IDC told Associated Press the scope of the case will likely be in the millions.
Sharp said it only sued Korean-based Samsung after negotiations between the companies for a licensing agreement broke down.
