Will be with you within a week

Today is the day when Google starts shipping its latest Nexus tablet. The new Nexus 9 is manufactured by HTC and powered by an Nvidia 64-bit Tegra K1 chip with a dual-core Denver CPU and is the first true 64-bit Android device to hit the market.

We have mentioned that Google is changing its Nexus strategy and that as of this generation, Nexus should imply that you are getting a high-end phone or tablet. We will see how this strategy works out for Google, since the price of the new tablet matches the iPad Air and is $100 cheaper than the flagship iPad Air 2.

Google Play in the USA can ship you a Nexus 9 today and it will take a day or two for the shipment to be at your doorstep. The 16GB version sells for $399 while the 32GB sells for $499. Nexus 9 is available in black or white and the LTE version ships later. In most parts of the European Union that uses the euro and has Play Store support, the Nexus 9 16GB sells for €389 while the 32GB version sells for €489, available in both black and white. Google doesn’t let you pre order LTE version at this time.

The Nexus 9 cover is not available for shipping in the European Play Store which is a bit disappointing for the search giant, since making a plastic cover shouldn’t be that hard. We tried to order one and Google tells us that it will ship in one to two days and that with ground shipping which is the only shipping choice for us it takes 5-7 business days to get it. In the best case scenario it might arrive at some point next week and Google offers 5-7 day deliveries, with products leaving the warehouse in one to two days.

One would think that Google should know better than that. Best Buy in the US or Media Markt or Saturn in German speaking countries don’t have any Nexus 9 units in stock, but they might have them in a week or two. Google can learn a thing of two about pre orders, shipping methods and retail availability from the company it tries to copy so hard, the mighty Apple.
