28-incher for semi-pros

ViewSonic has officially launched its first UHD monitor, the 28-inch VX2880ml, based on a TN panel.

The ViewSonic VX2880ml was leaked a while ago and it has been listed on some e-tail sites for roughly a month, but now it is officially shipping and the MSRP is $679.

ViewSonic VX2880ml pumps out UHD at 30Hz

The company describes the VX2880ml as a UHD display for CAD/CAM and content development. It is not perfectly suited to gaming, as its response time is 5ms and it churns out 3840x2160 at 30Hz.

The 28-inch TN panel is rated at 300cd/m² and it the static contrast stands at 1000:1 (50m:1 dynamic). The monitor features HDMI 1.4 MHL, dual DisplayPort 1.2 and Mini DisplayPort 1.2 inputs, along with dual DisplayPort outputs. It is a 10-bit affair and it can display up to 1.07 billion colours.

Pricing and availability

The VX2880ml can be ordered directly from ViewSonic at $679

We also found it listed in a number of European shops, starting at €460. It is still not available in Europe, but the price is competitive, roughly on a par with AOC’s u2868qu and Dell’s Professional 2815Q monitor. It can be ordered directly from ViewSonic.

European enthusiasts and professionals can finally upgrade to UHD for €500 or less, as Iiyama, Samsung and Acer have all priced their entry level UHD monitors at €500 or less.

Sadly though, most of them are not a great choice for gamers due to high response times and low refresh rates.
