Sony prepares 4.0 update for four Xperias

Written by Fuad Abazovic

James Bond phones getting ICS

The Nexus 4 is still next to impossible to get in Europe and other vendors are still struggling to catch up with Google’s OS rollouts.

Sony is rolling out a new update, based on Android 4.0. No this is not a typo, Sony’s Xperias are getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, not 4.1 Jelly Bean. Users of a few Sony phones including the Xperia P, Xperia U, Xperia Go and Xperia Sola will be getting the update, but let me be boring and repeat that the update won’t get you Jelly Bean 4.1 or 4.2.

The update claims Sony, is Ice Cream Sandwich based, but it promises to improve stability, WiFi, tethering/portable hotspot, camera (capture and playback), NFC and Messaging. If you are the happy owner of a Xperia P, Sony will notify you when your update is ready, but the times will wary across the different markets and carriers.

Xperia U, Go, Sola will get a notification when their update gets ready. For those users the upgrade will work over the air. In case that your phone listed above still has Gingerbread, you will need a PC companion of Bridge for Mac to upgrade your phone.

James Bond’s favorite phone brand is really slow when it comes to updates and at this rate we will see a new Bond movie before Android 4.2 on Bond’s favorite phones.

You can get more details here.
