Confusion over Dark Souls content

by on18 April 2012

New PC content not headed to consoles?

So, we know that Dark Souls is coming to the PC. However, an apology from director Hidetaka Miyazaki seems to support the news that the new content in the PC release of Dark Souls will apparently not make its way to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game.

The Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition on the PC is a port that does include at a couple of new areas to explore, but how relevant this content will be is unknown at this time. It is clearly additional content not found in the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 release, and at least right now there are no plans to make this extra content available as DLC.

According to Miyazaki, the extra content will add a couple more bosses and a few more areas, but apparently that is also something that is still being sorted out; and it is still going to be a while before we know what the extra content in the PC version will add. We suspect that it will do little to change the main game, however.

While Namco has confirmed that the extra content isn’t coming to the console versions of the game, sources tell us they still would not rule out a reversal of this decision before it is all said and done. We will have to wait and see, but if console owners make enough noise we suspect that Namco will have to at least reconsider.
