Panels won’t be ready on time
It appears that Apple will not be able to launch its upcoming smart TV line in the second quarter as previously expected.
According to Digitimes, panel makers won’t have the new indium gallium zinc oxide, or IGZO panels ready in time. Apple apparently tried to source the panels from Sharp, but they simply won’t be ready at time and yield rates are reportedly a major concern at this point.
Meanwhile, Samsung and LG will focus on OLED panels instead, and we expect the vast majority of Android smart TVs will stick to OLED.
