Western Digital readies 2.5-inch 2TB drive

Written by

Apple friendly My Passport caught in the wild

Western Digital is apparently gearing up to introduce the world’s first 2.5-inch 2TB drive.

The unannounced drive is set to debut in a sleek My Passport Studio chassis geared towards Apple users. Like the rest of the Studio line, it features an all metal design and comes preformatted for Mac. Sadly it doesn’t feature USB 3.0, which is considered haram in the Apple universe, but it has two FireWire 800 ports. The lowest list price stands at €215 in Europe, and a few retailers are offering it for €239.

However, the really big news is that 2TB drives in 2.5-inch format are just around the corner and should be implemented in other products soon. We do not have any specs at this time, so we don’t know the rpm or height. (No porn joke? sub.ed.)
