HP says it will spin off PC arm

Maker of expensive printer ink HP s said it prefers to spin off its personal computers unit and is currently working on understanding the larger implications of separating the business from the company.

There was talk that the outfit might try to flog its PC arm, but it does not seem there were enough buyers with cash. An HP spokesperson told Reuters that the outfit would prefer a spin-off as a separate company and the working hypotheses is that a spin-off will be in the best interests of HP's shareholders, customers and employees.

She said that HP is still investigating to see if that is true and the outfit still has to understand the “dis-synergies in separating the PSG business from HP". With a sentence like that, we think she has to worry about murdering language. She said that the whole process could take 12 months to 18 months, but a final decision on the unit is expected by the end of this calendar year.
