Social notworking site, Facebook is planning to triple its size in the next six years, according to information filed with Menlo Park City Council.
Next month the city’s planning commission will give feedback on Facebook’s environmental impact report for the proposed architectural changes to the company’s future headquarters in Menlo Park. According to the San Jose Mercury News the Facebook’s plans call for the ability to put up to 9,400 employees in 79 acres in Menlo Park.
The land had been owned by Sun and when it was limited to a few thousand employees the council limited staff numbers to a few thousand. The main reason was that the council was worried about traffic problems. Facebook’s environmental impact report include a proposal to limit the number of vehicle trips to and from the area to 15,000 per day. It will set up a free shuttle service, a standard park among technology companies in Silicon Valley. Facebook’s cunning plan is for a 57-acre east campus and a 22-acre west campus.
What is interesting is that Facebook does not see its social notworking empire fading in the next six years, which is more optimistic than us. We think there will be something bigger and brighter on the horizon. There usually is.
