Black Ops most pirated game of 2010

Written by

Comes with the success
The latest instalment of the Call of Duty franchise is apparently the most pirated game of 2010.

According to Torrentfreak, CoD: Black Ops is got the dubious distinction of being the absolute winner in terms of illegal downloads. It is estimated that 4.27 million PC users downloaded an illegal copy of the game as of December 26. Bear in mind that the game launched in November and that the number of total illegal downloads will continue to grow for months to come.

However, the title sold 5.6 million copies in the first day of sales and netted revenues in excess of $1 billion within weeks of the launch, making it the most successful game launch in history.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 ranked second with 3.96 million illegal downloads, but it launched back in March. Mafia 2 came in third with 3.55 million downloads, while Mass Effect 2 and Starcraft II ended up with 3.2 and 3.1 million illegal downloads respectively.

Love them or loath them, people who download pirated games appear to have pretty good taste, although I personally believe Civilization V was the best game of the year, like every previous Civilization title.

Congratulations to all the pirates

Because supporting companies like Activision to rip of customers with this overpriced, buggy piece of marketing crap is nonsense.

This is the very reason that the PC is second rate to the console when it comes to gaming! Anybody who spends $300-$500 on a video card, can buy a $50 or less game! PC gaming is full of cheaters and pirates!

Bad Company 2 was FAR better than Black Ops imo!

Also what is that attitude with COD games? The two latest installments still sell for full price at Steam. Also COD4 sells for 25 euros and COD 1 and 2 sell for 20 euros each! WTF? Who do they think they are anyway?

I'd buy them for 50 euros in a COMPLETE collection top to bottom, otherwise no deal for me.

Console gaming is "GREATLY LIMITED" in terms of graphics and expandability. Here in PC land we have DX9, 10 & 11 (12+ coming) along with "MUCH MUCH" better graphics that we the user can control 100%.

PC games costs next to nothing vs. expensive console games. Not saying consoles are bad, they are very good just that they attract a different type of people to them. So both console & PC have a place for them in peoples home.

As for pirated games, BOOHOOHOO, these gaming companies make Millions upon Billions of $$$$$$, though I don't condone to pirated games, these companies shouldn't bitch about it. The more they try to prevent piracy with this DRM junk, the more they hurt the legit consumer.

Probably about a Billion $$$, but the problem is you will never get rid of piracy, what they should do is have attractive game prices.

Where's the statistic on how many illegal downloads of the console version were made?

I'm sure it's nowhere as high, but it'd still be good to know instead of presenting a one-side story.
