9800 slider might get Torch branding

Could be a strange naming decision

We have been so focused on E3 that we have been ignoring our friends in the North, and word has reached us that the upcoming BlackBerry 9800 slider might carry new branding. We will not revisit the fact that some device branding decisions of new BlackBerry units have been better received than others.

The whispers we hear seem to indicate that RIM is set to call the new slider BlackBerry line the Torch. The Torch branding is perhaps better than the Tour, but not as elegant as the Bold, but then the slider does not really fit with the Touch product family.

Our sources point to the fact that RIM has registered blackberrytorch.com as evidence that this could be what branding the 9800 slider will carry when it does arrive.
