Will release Stargate shooter instead of MMO

Another chapter in the strange saga of the Stargate Worlds MMO took another strange turn when our sources confirmed to us that developer Cheyenne Mountain would release a new third person online shooter that will be called Stargate Resistance in 2010.

While the developer has had a lot of interesting issues getting the Stargate Worlds MMO to market, it appears that they will switch gears for the time being and instead focus for the time being on Stargate Resistance.

While details on Stargate Resistance are somewhat sketchy, what we have been able to uncover is that beyond the fact that it will be a third-person shooter, it will be class-based, with players being given the choice of playing either the human or System Lord Forces. Play will span across the galaxy, according to our sources.

While Cheyenne Mountain has not released any additional details as to which platforms Stargate Resistance would appear on, Firesky is going to be responsible for producing the title. (We assume that it will arrive for the PC platform for sure, but consoles might be a possibility, as well.) Beyond suggesting that it will appear in 2010, we have no additional details at this time; but Cheyenne Mountain claims that more specific details will arrive soon.

There is no word as to the exact fate of Stargate Worlds and whether development of the MMO will continue, but from our understanding development will continue. The plan, according to the whispers that we hear, is to generate revenue from Stargate Resistance to continue the development of the Stargate Worlds MMO. If successful, it could signal at least a chance that the MMO might at some point in the future see the light of day.
