Inappropriate for minors, and thus banned

The Alien vs Predator game was found to be too violent by the Australian government. Aussie censors have banned the forthcoming Aliens vs. Predator because Rebellion Games' refuses to sanitize the game for a nation where "adults are not considered by their governments to be able to make their own entertainment choices".

Like many countries with a backward view of censorship and a large vocal crowd of born again Christians, Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification is notoriously tough. Sexually explicit art films like Salo and Ken Park met with ratings difficulties in the country. But Australia has problem in that video games do not have an R18 category and if a game in Australia is deemed by the government to be inappropriate for children, it is banned.

Valve edited some gore from its game Left 4 Dead 2 to pass Australia's censors but the OFLC really did not like Aliens vs Predator because of its "close-up depictions of human characters being subjected to various types of violence, including explicit decapitation and dismemberment as well as locational damage such as stabbing through the chest, mouth, throat, or eyes."

"In the opinion of the Board," the report continues, "the violence in the game causes a high playing impact due to its first-person, close up perspective, conceptual nature and the level of explicit detail involved in the depictions. The game is therefore unsuitable for minors to see and play and should be refused classification."

With all that censorship you would expect Australia to be a peaceful place where there are no murders or sex crimes. However statistics show that it is second only to England as one of the most violent industrialized nations in the world.
