Confirmation of additional features starting

The big draw for the upcoming Microsoft Xbox 360 Dashboard (or Xbox Live update, as some are starting to call it) has been the addition of Twitter and Facebook support. It seems now, however, that we are hearing that there are a few other new things that will be making their way to your Xbox 360 dashboard, as well.

First, we are now able to confirm that Last.FM will be included in this update. It seems that despite the conflicting reports and the fact that it was downplayed a bit, it was never dropped or intended to be excluded from this update. It is in there and it will be very interesting to see what the actual reaction is by the user community to it once users start playing with it.

In addition to the things we know about, our sources are beginning to tell us about some of the things that are also included that have not been getting the high profile press, such as the addition of the new “News and More” tab, which will arrive for Xbox users in the U.S. The “News and More” tab will feature regularly updated content that will arrive regularly, including content from MSNBC.com, MSN, The New Yorker and Dilbert for starters. Additional content is expected to be added based on the response from users, but it is at least believed that a good deal of this content will be targeted toward the type of audience that is attracted to owning an Xbox 360.

Finally, the rhythm and music games will be getting their own store or area. We continue to hear from many people that are not into these types of titles that having to wade through all of this content within the game store is a pain. Well, it will no longer be a pain, as these titles will have their own store and area, so if you are not into rhythm and music games, you will not have to wade through their content to get to what you are looking for.

Beyond these two additions, we are now hearing whispers of an additional “surprise” that will follow the update. According to the rumblings that we are hearing, closer to the end of the year an additional surprise will be added, but we can’t yet confirm what this might be.
