The numbers seem to be favoring Sony so far

It seems that a good number of industry insiders as well as industry analysts now think that the sales numbers from now through the holiday season will continue to favor Sony. The price drop is the difference, and now it appears that Sony will finally gain ground on both Microsoft and Nintendo, turning things around for the PlayStation 3.

Since the price drop, the Sony is expected to lead the sales numbers for September, which will be a first for the company since the 2006 launch. Still, many are urging caution as some analysts (including us here at Fudzilla) think that the recent price drops of both the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii could have something to say about Sony running away with the lead for the entire holiday season with the PS3.

Nintendo has boldly suggested that for the first holiday season, they have enough inventory in North America to satisfy demand. This, coupled with many considering a Wii purchase because of the new Wii Fit title and the upcoming Mario release, might help Nintendo continue their stranglehold on the holiday season.

Microsoft is betting that the Xbox 360 Elite at $299 will continue to be attractive, but we are starting to hear that Microsoft might, in fact, slash the price of the Arcade for the holiday season to $179 to be more competitive with the Wii and to ensure that they are the lowest priced option. This is a decision that the company is pondering at the moment; and if things get rocky for sales of the Xbox 360 consoles, look for Microsoft to make a move if they find themselves trailing both Sony and Nintendo.
