Tactical decision to hold release till next year

As we were telling you yesterday, Take-Two pushed some major releases back till next year for a variety of reasons. Our sources tell us, however, that it was more due to titles not being ready that made the decision to postpone them till next year.

With GTA 5 not announced for this holiday season and a crowded release schedule already, it could be more of a tactical move by Take-Two to maximize profits by holding off on some titles that were originally scheduled for release in the 2009 holiday season.

After looking at the 2010 release schedule, it is obvious that Take-Two will have a big first half of 2010 with a lot of big titles to push out the door. This opens a big gap for GTA 5 to be the premium release for the 2010 holiday season. It just seems that this is what Take-Two is planning.

In the meantime, GTA fans will have to get along with the add-ons that have been released as an exclusive for the Xbox 360 platform as they wait for GTA 5 to arrive next year. Our sources tell us that they expect that Take-Two will announce GTA 5 at E3 next year; and our sources are already saying that it is on the schedule for an early November release. It is also expected that the second half of 2010 will be filled with a new Midnight Club, L.A. Noire, Agent and a Sid Meier project, as well.

Several analysts are predicting a banner year for Take-Two in 2010 if all of the projected titles make their release dates. We have to agree.
