New features, but will not arrive till early 2010

Well, it would seem that those eagerly awaiting the arrival of Battlefield 1943 for the PC will again have to be patient, as DICE has again bumped the release date for the second time. The latest news is that the PC version of Battlefield 1943 will not arrive for the PC until early 2010.

While the news will come as a bit of a shock to those waiting on the promised September release, DICE says that all of the extra waiting will be worth it for PC players, as DICE has amped up the release of 1943 on the PC with additional features that will not be found in the console releases. DICE has not been specific about the exact details regarding the delay, beyond saying that some of the delays are due to getting the Frostbite engine running on the PC platform and the fact DICE wants to deliver the features that PC Battlefield players want with the release of this title.

As for the good news, when the PC version of Battlefield 1943 is released it will offer both DirectX 9 and 10 graphics support. In addition, the PC version will support 32 player matches and wide peripheral support, for example, joysticks for flying, VoIP communications, and full Ranked Server Provider Hosting.

According to our sources, DICE is unhappy with the delay, but they are committed to producing the best version of Battlefield 1943 for the PC that is possible. While the company has not committed to being any more specific than a release date in Q1 2010, our sources suggest it is likely on track for a mid-February to early March release.
