Our sources tell us that Pyro Studios will be returning to the past and starting work on a new Commandos title once their work on Planet 51 is completed. This will make the first time that the studio has been able to revisit the Commandos franchise in a long time, despite the requests of many fans of the original Commandos title.

From what we hear, Pyro is set on making a title that is a worthy successor to the original Commandos franchise; rather than something like Commandos Strike Force, which was an attempt to move the franchise in a different direction and one that met with dissatisfaction from most players.

While no publisher or timetable for the development has been announced, just the news from our sources that Commandos will be coming back is great to hear. We have to admit that we have wasted a lot of hours playing this game, and we do think that it could do very well on the next generation console systems if the studio delivers on its promise to stick with what worked in the original franchise.
