Picks up former Vivendi owned licenses

Rebellion has been busy shopping and has picked up several former Vivendi-owned licenses from which the company is considering how to best use them; and this includes creating brand new content or franchise from these licenses. Our sources indicate that building a new title for each of these franchises would be the ultimate goal.

The company has acquired the rights to Evil Genius, Ground Control, Empire Earth, Lords of the Realm, and Lords of Magic. The list includes a variety of titles that were since developed by other Vivendi-owned or partner studios that have since been acquired by other publishers or do not have rights to the titles.

It is expected that Rebellion will quickly move to make at least some of these titles available very quickly through digital distribution to help start to recoup the upfront costs in acquiring the rights while Rebellion studies the possible future for each franchise license.

According to our sources, Rebellion is currently working on the development of Rogue Warrior for Bethesda and a new Aliens vs. Predator title for Sega. So, it is understandable that the company will be looking for something to do once these projects are completed, and naturally, the studio can make more if they own the licensing IP for the title rather than having a publisher provide it.
